About High Country Orchards

High Country Orchards, L.L.C. is family owned and operated by Scott and Theresa High, their daughter Katie and two sons Matthew and Keenan of Denver, Colorado. They share their time between their quiet home site along the Colorado River in Palisade and the bustling city of Denver. Since they purchased their first orchard on East Orchard Mesa in Palisade in November 1999 the family has dreamed of restoring the reputation of the famous Palisade Peaches of one hundred years ago. Scott is a native of Colorado and since his childhood growing up in Denver he remembers those juicy, delicious
peaches from Palisade that would hit the
fruit stands every August. Between Scott
and Theresa, they have almost 50 years of sales, management and marketing experience.

In 1996, Scott High founded Classic Wines, LLC, one of the country’s preeminent wholesale importers and distributors of fine wines headquartered in Denver, Colorado where he oversees sales and administration of a portfolio of prestigious wines from around the world. Classic Wines is an industry leader both locally and nationally. The company was created from the idea of one, and today services a full spectrum of prestigious wine purveyors from around the world and includes the wines from four high quality Grand Valley, Colorado producers.

Meanwhile, Theresa, whose education and sales experience comes from the wine and publishing industries, has taken on the responsibility of managing the sales, marketing and promotion of their brand, High Country Orchards tree ripened, fresh picked peaches and other fresh market products. In 2006, High Country Orchards expanded their line of premium products to includes fruit preserves, salsas.

They look forward to adding honeys and other innovative and agriculturally produced temptations with distribution throughout the state of Colorado. High Country Orchards began shipping nationally on-line in the summer of 2007.

High Country Orchards invites you to visit our family owned and operated orchards, vineyards and gardens overlooking the scenic Colorado River in Palisade. We harvest 15 to 20 different varieties of tree-ripened peaches, Bing, Lambert and Rainier sweet cherries, and cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and petit verdot vitits vinifera red wine grape varieties. Our estate grown fresh fruits and vegetables are produced with fourth generation peach-grower experience and stretch over 126 acres of prime production land. At High Country Orchards we go to great lengths to consistently produce quality fruits and vegetables from our orchards, vineyards and gardens. We offer fresh produce and homemade products for sale at our Country Store at the orchards.

1. We aggressively thin the potential peach crop early in the spring to lower the quantity and thus increase the quality of the peaches we grow,
2. We pick each peach tree a minimum of four /five times in order to harvest premium peaches that are perfectly tree-ripened,
3. We harvest in the mornings, when the fully ripened peaches are still cool and firm from the night before (this provides better flavor and a crisp freshness),
4. We process our fruit with a digital sizing and sorting operation (as opposed to a mechanical sorting system) that gently handles the peaches in a very delicate manner. This enables us to pick all of our fruit in a more ripe condition,
5. We ship our fruit to market overnight, so that it can be in the consumers hands usually within 24 hours of harvesting.
6. We grow our peaches naturally and use integrated pest control management (IMP) to minimize spraying of our orchards and vineyards.
